Even the early Hindu and Jain temples came into being under the royal patronage of the rulers of the three great empires of the souththe Chalukyas , the Pallavas and the Pandyas along with the lesser kingdoms wedged in between . यहां के प्राचीन हिंदू और जैन मंदिर भी राजकीय संरंक्षण से बने और बढ़े.चालूक़्य , पल्लव तथा पांड्य राजाओं ने तथा कई अन्य दूसरे छोटे राजाओं ने भी इस परंपरा को कायम रखा.उस समय के अभिजात्य वर्ग , व्यापारिक संस्थनों तथा कृषि कर्म एवं दूसरे कारीगरी के काम में लगे लोगों में भी काफी समृद्धि थी .
